What’s the next best thing for sport fans?

Living in Hamburg and working in the digital sphere simply means one has to contribute to the Social Media Week, coming to town for the second time from Feb, 17th-22nd. Like last year, I will host a session on sport and social media and attend other sessions as well. On Wednesday, Feb, 20th, 7.30pm-approx. 8.45pm we will talk about “ What’s the next best thing for sport fans? Starting today, you can claim your seat (limit: 100) via the website of the Hamburg Social Media Week.

The background
When the first iPhone was launched nobody could have thought that by now hundreds of different smartphones and a handful of companies would be competing for consumer approval. Many companies now struggle to update their apps for the different smartphone versions and mobile websites seem to be the salvation. Unfortunately, the negotiations about the final HTML 5 code and function set are still running. Sports and clubs have become more professional over the last decade and do now face an important crossroad in the outline of their digital strategy. Mobile is sexy, but heavy investments need to be made to fuel the fans’ desire for mobile services like instant replays of goals or touchdowns. Refunding is tricky and we hope to get some answers with the session’s international perspective.

What we are going to do
I’ve invited numerous outstanding sport marketing experts to contribute their thoughts on digital marketing trends via a Google+ Hangout, which will be streamed live on YouTube and Livestream. As soon as the speakers have been approved, this article will be updated and tweets by @jancrode / @medienlotse under the Hashtag #smwsport will follow. The live audience can directly ask questions, others have the chance to do so via Twitter as described above. Please use these opportunities already before the Social Media Week. I am happy to get in touch with those interested in digital sport marketing strategies.
